Missions

Red Bird Mission

Red Bird Mission is a ministry that has been providing ministries in this region of the Appalachian Mountains since 1921. Today the need remains critical in this isolated, rural distressed area. Chronic poverty, lack of jobs, poor housing, and rugged mountainous terrain provide obstacles to a fuller life for the residents of this area. Red Bird Mission and Clinic strives to meet these needs through ministry in five areas: Education, Health and Wellness, Community Outreach, Economic Opportunity, and Community Housing Improvement. Many churches support Red Bird through donations and mission trips to the mission itself, where churches help with a variety of service projects. Belmont UMC is one of those churches.

During the year we collect and make regular delivery of needed materials for Red Bird such as: clothing, household items, shoes, season items, dishes, towels, other linens, jewelry, kitchen supplies, etc. We make periodic day trips to deliver donations and keep up on what’s happening at Red Bird. Then each October a group from our church spends at week serving at Red Bird. Two of our leaders, Kim Duff and Penny Beery, have been going faithfully for years!

Henderson Settlement

Henderson Settlement is a ministry in Frakes, Kentucky that serves area residents in need. Located in a poor area of Appalachia, Henderson is similar to Red Bird. Every other year our youth group takes a week-long mission trip to Henderson where they complete work projects and more. Not only do the youth have the experience of helping others but learn valuable life skills like the value of measure twice, cut once.  For more on Henderson Settlement, follow this link: HENDERSON SETTLEMENT

Christian Literature

We collect all types (outdated is OK) of Christian literature.  Bibles, Christian based novels/books, devotionals such as the Upper Room, Guidepost Magazines, etc are given to Outreach areas in the USA and the World for people who are hungry for the word of God.  Check your bookcases.  Bet you have something you could donate.  Donation tube is by the Welcome table in the sanctuary.  Our 2019 donation was 29 boxes of literature.  Thank you!
